English Enrichment Programme (Reading and Writing)
There are essentially two main programmes, reading and writing. We prioritize the development of reading skills and public speaking to writing skills. Therefore, our basic level begins with reading programme followed by writing programme.
Reading
Phonics reading, sentence and paragraph reading.
Embark on an adventure with Aladdin.
Learn the moral values from Pinocchio.
Writing
This level introduces the basic mechanics of writing and rules of grammar as the children learn the elementary process of writing. Children are also ready to engage in reading simplified classic.
With a strong writing foundation, children learn to structure essays with clear flow and coherence. They practice various formats like storytelling, news reports, letters, and comics, refining their skills through regular practice and feedback.
This module enhances children’s essay writing by teaching techniques for idea expansion and coherence. Activities include speech writing, research, news reporting, and fiction. Reading original novels is encouraged to further develop their skills.
At this level, students refine their writing style by analyzing and comparing various authors’ techniques. They apply the ASAMP technique (Adverbs, Simile, Adjective, Metaphor, Personification) and use creative phrasing to develop their own characters, plots, and conflicts. Readings include complex works like Animal Farm, The Good Earth, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Shakespearean stories.
